Dear Skamania Parents,
I hope that you and your families are well. Here is a brief update for the week.
Attendance and engagement:
Thank you for the extra efforts you are taking to ensure that your child is taking advantage of the learning opportunities. We are seeing an increase in the number of students attending and turning in assignments.
Improved learning experience:
Each week the teachers and staff take your feedback, and in turn, do their best to improve the learning experience. You should see more focused and detailed assignments, along with one-on-one remedial support, tutoring, and coaching options.
Fall opening:
Our small size may allow us to open sooner rather than later because of our ability to social distance. I anticipate a phased-in opening with a mixed model of both split and rotating schedules, depending on the orders that we receive from the Governor’s office and guidance from Skamania County Health Department. Depending on public health guidance, we will most likely continue to incorporate an improved version of the current online continuous learning model to help meet the social distancing criteria. This may include tutoring and coaching, along with in-class face-to-face support when allowed. Other improvements we are exploring include adding elective courses with advanced placement options for our middle school students and expanding our childcare support to additional essential workers.
Registering now for the fall:
It is that time of year to register for school! We are accepting kindergarten applications. We will also continue to offer the transitional kindergarten program for students who will be 4 years old by August 30, 2020. In addition, all choice transfer/boundary exception applications are due by June 1st. A letter is going out to choice transfer families with more details. Please remember to register early.
Dates to remember:
- May 25- No school – Memorial Day
- June 19 – Last day of school
Let me know if you have any questions.
All the best,
Ralph
