Dear Skamania School District Team and Families,

I am writing to be sure you are aware of announcements made by Governor Inslee in recent days related to coronavirus (COVID-19).

The governor announced that he is mandating the closure of all schools in Seattle-area counties (King, Snohomish and Pierce) starting Tuesday, March 17 through Friday, April 24. Yesterday, he banned gatherings of 250 or more people in the same Seattle-area counties (King, Snohomish and Pierce). The goal of these measures is to prevent the spread of coronavirus (COVID-19).

Local Impact

There are currently no confirmed cases of COVID-19 in Skamania School District. Our district, like most across the state, remains open; however, district leaders have also been instructed by the Governor to create contingency plans, should the situation change.

Skamania School District is closely monitoring the COVID-19 situation, maintaining regular contact with local health department officials and creating contingency plans, should something change.

District Changes/Cancellations

Out of an abundance of caution, and to limit the spread of potential exposure, the Skamania School District is postponing or cancelling the following activities:

  • After school drama club
  • Sundae’s on Friday – PTO BINGO event

The list of affected activities may grow as we work with the department of health and the Office of the Superintendent of Public Instruction (OSPI) in the coming days. We will, of course, update you as we make those decisions and will share this information on our website and through the phone messenger program.

As a reminder, help us to keep our school community healthy and keep students home if they are showing signs of a respiratory illness (fever, cough, and/or shortness of breath).

I understand this is a time of uncertainty and it is our pledge to continue to keep you updated as information becomes available.

Sincerely,
Dr. Ralph Pruitt, Superintendent/Principal
