Dear Parents,
I’m excited to share the news that on Monday night, the Skamania School Board voted to expand in-person learning to now include Wednesdays. This will begin on March 17, and will give all students in-person instruction five days a week.
As we approach a full year since schools were closed in Washington State due to Covid 19, I am grateful that we have been able to safely reopen and expand our in-person learning days for all of our students.
As you know, our small school size has allowed us to safely serve students in-person much earlier than larger schools and districts. We started with TK – 2nd grade on October 1st. Grades 3-5 started on October 22, and by November 12, 2020, all Skamania students had the option to receive in-person instruction at least two days a week. This newest expansion to five days a week of in-person instruction brings back a much needed sense of normalcy for our students, families and staff.
With the expansion to five days a week of in-person instruction, Wednesdays will continue to be early dismissal days for all students. Students will be dismissed at 12:30 p.m. each Wednesday, which allows for teacher preparation and training.
Families who wish to remain online-only will continue to have this option, even as we transition to full in-person on March 17.
We will continue to closely monitor the case counts and other metrics, and to collaborate with the Skamania Public Health Department, to ensure student and staff safety as we proceed throughout the remainder of the school year. Masks will still be required, and we will continue to maintain six feet of social distancing, as well as being vigilant with hand washing and cleaning procedures.
