Dear Skamania School District Families,

After serving as an educator for 55 years, I have decided it is time to look for new experiences and opportunities. I will be retiring from the Skamania School District effective June 30, 2025. The Skamania School Board approved my retirement request during its February 19th board meeting.

When I committed to serve as your Superintendent three years ago, I was planning to stay for just a year. But something strange and wonderful happened—I fell in love with this place. Even the daily commute up the Gorge was not a deterrent when I decided to come back for year 2 and then year 3.

This is a special place, where I have had the privilege of working alongside a great Board, terrific staff, supportive parents, and wonderful students. I will certainly miss you all, especially the children.

Even though we have had our fair set of challenges, Skamania School has established itself as a quality small school district. Our growth of students coming to us as Choice Students is an indicator that others are convinced we have a good thing going.

While the selection of the next Superintendent is a responsibility of the Board, I will certainly lend any support that I can. Over the next month or so, the Board will keep you informed of the selection process.

Not sure where my next path will take me. It could be sunny Arizona or beautiful Spain. My two grandchildren, living in Spain, have already found me an apartment in Madrid.

Skamania will always have a special place in my heart.

Sincerely,
Milt Dennison
