Dear Families,

I am writing to share good news about our water samples at Skamania School. We were fortunate to receive a $200,000 competitive Urgent Repair grant from Washington State to resolve issues related to lead pipes. This summer all pipes were replaced and new fixtures were installed, including drinking fountains with water bottle filling stations.

Following the re-piping, recent inspections have shown safe water samples. We have posted the results of this recent test on our website. The water continues to be monitored monthly for lead and copper by NW Water Systems. All tests since the re-piping have been clear. We will continue to report the results of the testing to the Washington State Department of Health. Any concerns will be promptly addressed.

Information on lead in drinking water is available from EPA’s Safe Drinking Water Hotline at 1-800-426-4791 or online: http://www.epa.gov/safewater/lead. You may also access Washington State Department of Health’s Office of Drinking Water website.

We are thankful for the financial support from the state for this re-piping project. Skamania School has served this community for 150 years and it is our promise to continue to provide excellent education for years to come in a safe and healthy environment.

Sincerely,
Dr. Ralph Pruitt, Superintendent
