Skamania families,

Despite inclement weather and bus transportation challenges, the 2022-23 school year was a real success. I joined Skamania School as the Interim Superintendent with a 1-year part-time contract. Early Spring discussions with the Skamania School Board resulted in a contract extension for the 2023-2024 school year.

Even though the staff and students are on summer break, things are still busy at the school. Room change preparation is underway. Summer cleaning is moving forward. Staffing needs are being addressed. Budget development for the 2023-2024 school year is nearing completion.

I am pleased to announce that we will have three new licensed staff members join us in the Fall.

  • Kimberly Cunningham will join our middle school team and will be our grades 7-8 homeroom teacher.
  •  Lori Caccavo was hired to replace Jeannette Hodapp who recently retired from her music position.
  • Ashley Becker will join our staff as an occupational therapist/counselor.

Other staff changes include:

  • Katy London will become our 3rd/4th grade homeroom teacher.
  • Raymond Chavarria will move to the 5th/6th grade classroom.
  • Michelle Miller will continue to be our STEAM teacher but will also take over PE instruction responsibilities.

Our ongoing challenge is to find bus drivers. This is a problem that most school districts are facing, so if you know of anyone who would be interested, please have them contact our office to learn more.

I will look forward to seeing returning students on August 30 and parents during our September 5 “Welcome Back BBQ.” Stay tuned for more updates over the summer as we prepare for the 2023-24 school year.

Milt Dennison
Superintendent
