Dear Parents/Guardians,

I hope that all of you are staying safe and healthy. These times are certainly challenging, and I hope that your family is managing economically and staying healthy. The staff of  Skamania School are definitely missing the children! The school is just not the same, however, we know that being healthy and safe is the most important goal at the moment.

Outlined below is a brief summary of current topics.

The school team:

I appreciate the extra efforts and daily support of the team who are taking orders, preparing, and delivering meals each day. Catie, Boyd, Anita, Amber, and Paige work daily ensuring that food is going out as planned. They are delivering approximately 60 meals per day.

I appreciate the teaching staff who are working from home developing lessons, conducting parent conferences, and reaching out to students.

Finally, A big thank you to our paraprofessionals who are supporting the learning opportunities from home, participating in professional development, and assisting with the meal program

Home learning:

We are doing our best to provide home learning opportunities. We would much rather teach children face-to-face; however, we appreciate your efforts in supporting your child(ren) with learning.

The Governor of Washington initially closed schools from Monday, March 16th to Friday, April 24th, 2020; however, indications lead us to believe this closure may continue for the rest of the school year. This is why we are planning ahead and increasing our home learning options.

We recognize that the home learning format is a big responsibility for parents. Therefore, after spring break, we will be adding additional structure and online options to support you with this role. We will also share with you updates in regards to grading and turning in assignments.

The next packet for home learning will be delivered with the meals on Tuesday, April 14. They can also be picked up at the school office by calling ahead to arrange for pickup. The work in these packets will be due to the teacher in a week after delivery.  Starting the week of April 20th, an entire week’s lesson plan will be posted on our website. This lesson plan will include links and support information. There will be alternative plans for those who do not have internet access.

If your child needs a Chromebook to complete the work, please contact Amber at awarren@skamania.k12.wa.us . We do not have enough Chromebooks for every child, and will need to prioritize those who do not already have a computer at home.  Amber will send those who wish to check out the Chromebooks an agreement form to complete.

Communication:

We have a limited number of staff working at school providing some essential functions, such as the meal delivery program. Therefore, it is best to call the office before stopping by to pick up meals or student work.

The school will be closed from April 6 through April 10 for spring break. Meals will only be delivered on Monday and Wednesday to those who have signed up for this service in advance.

Future updates will be given through letters, the messenger program, our website at skamaniaschooldistrict.org, and/or on the PTO Facebook.

Take care of yourself and let us know if you need anything.

Sincerely,
Dr. Ralph Pruitt, Superintendent
