I have a great deal of excitement as I look forward to the start of the upcoming school year. I was very lucky to have spent most of the month of July in Europe visiting family. I’m grateful for video conferencing and accessibility of technology as I was able to accomplish several superintendent tasks while enjoying time with family, especially my two grandkids. They live in Turkey with their parents, so in addition to time with them in Turkey, we traveled to the Czech Republic where my daughter-in-law is from.
Without repeating all the information that Dr. Pruitt covered in his Farewell Message, I did want to provide you some of my background information. I have served as a superintendent for 35 years, spending eleven years in Camas followed by twelve years as an Education Service District superintendent in Oregon. Since “retirement” I have held two previous interim superintendent jobs, spending last year as the Superintendent/Principal of the Mt. Pleasant School District.
This year my job will be as the Superintendent. I am so pleased to have Katie Chavarria joining the administrative team as our Lead Teacher. She will be handling much of the principal duties in addition to teaching half-time.
My contract calls for two-days a week on site. Through the month of September, I expect to be here 3-4 days per week, as this will allow me time to get to know our Skamania students and families.
I look forward to meeting you soon. Please let me know if you have questions about your child’s experience here at Skamania School.
