Dear Skamania School Families,

We are just days away from welcoming everyone back to Skamania School for the new year, and I am excited to see everyone in person again!

I wanted to share some reminders and last minute details with you as students prepare to come back to school.

Please note: We have not yet filled our open Cook position, so students will need to bring their own lunch and also eat breakfast prior to arriving at school each day. This will remain the process until we have hired a person for the position. If you know of someone who may be interested, please refer them to our Job Openings page for more information and to apply.

First Day Details

Our first day of school is Tuesday, September 7. Class begins at 8:00 a.m. and we will dismiss early at 12:30 p.m. (regular dismissal is at 2:30 p.m.). Wednesday will be an early dismissal day each week, starting September 8.

Please send the following items with your student on the first day:

  • Face mask to wear during the day, plus a few extra to have on hand
  • School supplies
  • Refillable water bottle, as our drinking fountains will only be available for filling water bottles and may not be used to drink from.
  • Lunch
  • For younger students: a change of clothes to leave at the school

Please drop off and pick up your student at the front of the school to avoid the staff and bus parking lot.

All 3/4/5 students should go directly to room 4. We will direct them to their homeroom class from there.

We have a new heating and cooling system that is getting balanced and adjusted. Students should bring a sweater in case the air conditioner is too cool.

Other Need to Know Information

All students must have medically verified immunization records or a valid exemption on file with the school on or by the first day of class. If you have an updated immunization record, please turn it into the school office as soon as possible.

The tentative bus transportation schedule will be posted on the Transportation page by Friday, September 3, at 5 p.m. If you have transportation needs, please notify Amber in the office  ASAP.

Health and Safety Reminders

Remember that facial masks are required for all students, staff and visitors inside all school buildings and while on district transportation, regardless of their vaccination status. Masks will not be required outside the building during recess and PE or inside during lunch.

If your child is experiencing COVID symptoms or could be considered a close contact of someone who is sick, please refer to the COVID-19 Student Symptom Flowchart posted on our website before sending them to school.

We will be working closely with OSPI, ESD112 and Skamania County Public Health to ensure timely access to COVID testing if your child is exhibiting symptoms or has been identified as a close contact of someone who has tested positive for COVID-19.

We can’t wait to see you all again and to show off our updated building. We are still finishing up some final details, so pardon the mess as the construction wraps up.

I hope you had a restful summer and are ready for the new school year. See you on Tuesday!

Sincerely,
Dr. Ralph Pruitt, Superintendent/Principal
